Amos Zweig — Author & Philosopher
Hello, my name is Amos Zweig.
I am an independent author and philosopher, developing a systematic understanding of society, ethics, values, and human nature.
My work revolves around two questions: how should a good society be organized, and what does it mean to be a good human being, aka: how should one act in this complex and imperfect world? I approach these questions with the habits of thought of an engineer and scientist, working toward answers that are consistent with science, evolution, and economics, but also realistic, relatable, and practical enough to actually live by. Philosophy is for real life, not for spinning wild theories that float somewhere in the ether.
As to my background: I have been reading and thinking about ethics, society, and human nature for roughly 20 years now, following a path through religion, evolution, economics, political theory, psychology, and back to mythology. Along the way I’ve read widely, completed an online course in psychology, and listened to thousands of podcasts, debates, and lectures — always integrating the knowledge into my ever growing understanding of the world.
Parallel to that, I have acquired a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from ETH Zürich, with focus on robotics, control systems, and artificial intelligence, followed by four years employment as a development engineer.
Since 2019, I have dedicated myself fully to this work, and have been writing essays, articles, and books ever since.
With that: welcome to my page. I hope you’ll find some interesting and thought-provoking things here, and please feel free to drop me a line if you’d like to share a thought that is particularly important to you.
